Once again Rancho Ciervo Grande has supplied an unbelievable experience for father and son – Gerry and Blake Dixon. Here’s their story:
We arrived at the ranch on a Wednesday night at 1 AM full of excitement for the coming 4 days. Blake, my 12 year old son, opted to sleep in the first morning. I, on the other hand, had no chance of sleeping in as visions of big bucks danced in my head. Tim and I were in the stand by 6:15 ready for the morning hunt. By 7 am we were staring at 3 shooter bucks with 2 more working their way in. We quickly zeroed in on a solid management 8 point and let the rage go to work – 1 down.
After a great day of fishing, Blake and I hit a box blind for the evening hunt. The evening was fairly quiet until a mature 6 point cull buck worked a licking branch and headed across the field in front of us. Blake zeroed in on the buck and delivered a great shot. The buck piled up in the brush 60 yards later – 2 down.
The next day Javier, Tim’s excellent guide and ranch manager, took Blake out for the next couple hunts. Of course they set up for a huge 8-pointer named Chicken Little. It wasn’t long until Blake was on the board again, holding the horns of a massive buck- 3 down.
Wow! I could not have been more proud. I ended the weekend harvesting another solid management buck. All I can say is that Blake is one lucky 12 year old. What he has seen and accomplished hunting at the age of 12 took me 40 years to do the same. Couple great hunting with great fishing, food and friends and it doesn’t get any better.
